Click Tracking & Privacy
What information do you collect about clicks?
We collect basic click data (timestamp, source URL), geographic information derived from IP address (country, region, city), device information (browser type, operating system, device type), time-based metrics (time of day, day of week), and referrer information when available. All data collection is privacy-focused and excludes personal identifiers unless explicitly provided by the end user in flows developed by the customer that ask for PII (if part of your plan).
How do you use IP addresses?
IP addresses are used solely for geographic location detection, basic fraud prevention, and traffic pattern analysis.
Can users be personally identified through click tracking?
No. Our click tracking system is designed to be privacy-first and does not collect or store personally identifiable information (PII) unless explicitly provided by the end user in flows developed by the customer that ask for PII (if part of your plan). We aggregate data for analytics purposes and do not attempt to identify individual users.
Isnt an IP address a personal identifier?
While cases may exist where there is 1:1 parity between and IP address and a person, an IP address is a highly unreliable personal identifier. Typically an IP address is associated with an ISP, organization, cell provider, or other multi-partyentity and is not a personal identifier.
How long do you retain click data?
We maintain detailed click data at our discretion in the operation of our service. We comply with all data retention laws and regulations as well as reasonable customer requests to delete data.
Can link owners see who clicked their links?
Link owners can only see aggregate statistics and patterns such as total click counts, geographic distribution, device and browser statistics, time-based patterns, and rule matching analytics. At this time we do not offer the ability to see raw log data in our standard plans.
How do you prevent click fraud?
We employ pattern recognition for automated clicks, rate limiting per IP address, suspicious behavior monitoring, and automated fraud detection systems to prevent fraudulent activities.
Can users opt out of click tracking?
While basic click tracking is essential for our service and our customer's services to function, users can use privacy-focused browsers or VPNs, clear their cookies and local storage, or choose not to click on NextLinks URLs.
